Schematic Design

For some projects, the design process goes on to the schematic design. For small-sized designs, such as most residential sites, the master plan and the schematic design are one and the same. But, design projects involving many acres and many different land uses, use the schematic design to look at the proposal in greater detail. Like a master plan, the schematic design concerns itself with the entire site.

The schematic design is drawn in a neat, controlled style. Like the master plan, the schematic design may combine both drafted and freehand lines for the various elements of the plan, although the schematic design tends to be almost entirely drafted.
